PREE 15

Photo credit: Suzie Benjamin. Posted on Instagram by Diana McCaulay with the following note: A bird that builds rafts. I think this is the nest of a pied-billed grebe, or diver, with a single egg. I stand to be corrected by bird experts. Taken at the Mona Reservoir yesterday. A small waterbird builds this elaborate construction on water using only its beak and then floats nearby, guarding, until the egg hatches. Respect.

The prompt for our fifteenth issue was the precarity, fragility and vulnerability felt by the microstates of the Caribbean and others in the face of the global wars rapidly reshaping our world. Awards of USD 1000, 750 and 500 were awarded to the three most outstanding submissions. Richard Georges was the judge, for a note from him and a listing of awardees please see here.
